CALENDAR

Providing opportunities to explore scientific and spiritual perspectives.

Every April, Horizon Institute invites you to delve into the questions: "What Does It Mean To Be Human?" "What Could It Mean to be Fully Human?". There will be displays in store windows, and the Ashland Public Library, an art exhibit "Human Spirit" at the Hanson Howard Gallery, a poetry readying at Bloomsbury Books, a banner hanging across Main Street, and a morning on the call-in radio program, The Jefferson Exchange.

Horizon Institute coordinates these activities as a complement to our November event, "An Evening in Celebration of the Human Spirit" held in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Angus Bowmer Theatre. Our role is to act as a catalyst for exploration. We encourage everyone to get involved.

In championing the examined life, we invite you to pause and reflect, see where these questions lead, then respond in any way that you find meaningful. Talk to a neighbor,or someone you work with, Write an essay, a poem, a story or a play on the subject. Paint, sculpt, compose music, choreograph a dance, take photographs or make a film based on your response to the questions.

For example, what does it mean to be human:
• among other living beings on the planet?
• in the business world?
• in the classroom?
• in the service industry?
• as an artist?
• in the health-care community?
• as a member of a family?
• as a voter?

Ashland-based Horizon Institute will present its seventh annual "An Evening in Celebration of the Human Spirit" in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's Angus Bowmer Theatre, Ashland.
Each year Horizon hosts an evening featuring more than 50 poets, musicians, actors and singers on the stage. In past years, as part of the program, the audience recited a poem together and joined in singing Beethoven's "Hymn to Joy".
There will be an art exhibit related to the evenings theme, November 2 - 21 at the Bohemia Gallery, 222 A St., Ashland.

This is a grand experience for all ages.
